Just some quick thinking here:

It was Pride Day in Albuquerque yesterday. The Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual & Transgender folks had their morning parade, followed by festivities at the fairgrounds and gay bars around town.

It made me wonder what heterosexual people would do if they had a day. All I could come up with were families in parks and church potlucks. It's probably good that we don't have Heterosexual Pride Day.

It's sort of like having White People Day. It just doesn't make a lot of sense. Would we go around eating everything with mayonnaise and talking about how our taxes are misspent? What exactly would we celebrate?

Fortunately, there's always a holiday or celebration meant for you. Veterans, secretaries, bosses, laborers, presidents, Irish, Mexican, African American, Christians, Muslims, Jews, gays, mothers, fathers, grandparents, and of course, just being American.

Of course, you can always celebrate holidays that don't really pertain to you. My people were on the wrong side of the civil rights argument, but that doesn't mean we can't embrace civil rights. Many of my people dodged military service, but I can barbecue on Memorial Day as good as anyone.

We can party for any reason at all. Graduations, accomplishments, or just getting to the weekend. A bright non-smokey day in Albuquerque is cause for celebration.

So it doesn't matter who you are or what your tendencies are or what side your on, you can party. It's summer, so let's party.
