March moon madness
a frazzled SUIT column by Chris Jungle

I'm not thinking right. Or clearly. Or correctly. Maybe it's because the moon is full and closer than it has been in many a year. Maybe it's because I didn't drink coffee this morning due to drinking it every day for over a week. Maybe the radiation from Japan is doing more than they realize.

I woke up yesterday and was told WE are bombing Libya. Why? Because the higher seed Ghadafi was making a comeback against the underdog rebels, so referees starting calling a lot of fouls. Just like boxing, you can rig a fight anyway you want. I just mixed metaphors, and there's nothing I can do about it.

On St. Patrick's Day, I picked up a guy in the North Valley and asked if he was enjoying the holiday. He asked 'What is it, Easter?' Apparently, I'm not the only one who's not with it these days.

Last night, I was going to see the musical "Oliver!" My oldest brother was in it as a kid and I know most of the songs. A lady who was in the last play I acted in was playing the main female role of Nancy, and some of the old cast was going to see her. I was just going to watch the rest of the Butler/Pittsburgh game, and then go. It turned out to be a wild ending with two shots and two fouls called in the final eight seconds of the game. I was so engrossed that I missed the time to leave. I stayed home, drank wine, and watched my parent's alma mater come up short against Wisconsin. Basketball over musicals. Must be march madness.

Really? Libya? That's sooooooo 1980's. I was in freaking junior high the last time we did this. Does anyone mind if we wrap up our other wars that aren't doing any good?

Why is it we are so quick to jump into fights, but not so quick to help out with disasters. Katrina, tsunamis, earthquakes, and oil spills all seem to take weeks to figure out anything, and the result is always too little too late. Wars, however, are all victories, smiles, and handshakes in the beginning, and then we sit around and occupy land we don't want until someone starts shooting back.

Does it seem like Japan's answer to radiation clouds is duck and cover?

What is it with us? Why do we make the same bad decisions over and over? Why can't I keep a simple straight thought in my head? Why does this column have so many questions.

Maybe it's the moon. Or the radiation. Or the bombing. Or the basketball.

Opposite forces are pulling at me from all sides, and I don't know which way to go.
