12.5.10 Same as it ever was by Matt Worley Another co-worker is bound for new climes next week. And, again, I'm jealous. Not of the job he's going to (restaurant management), but that he's out. He's got something new to look forward to. Instead of more of the same. It's funny, everyone seemed to say they wanted new blood in the government (by the looks of the extreme voting swing), but it's more of the same. Can't get rid of earmarks (these are the things Congress uses to make constituents happy). Can't raise taxes on the rich (they paid for the election!). Can't cut military spending. Can't do anything until the President is voted out of office. And I thought the 'Pubs were sore losers two years ago. Here they are being sore winners. Voters really wanted this? Anyway, I'm trying to look forward to something. I'm typing this on my new computer, which is much bigger (hard drive), faster (CPU), and more powerful (uh, trust me) than the last one. Of course, I'm still doing most of the same things I usually do on it. But give me time, it's really new. I spent two days moving all of my stuff from the old one to the new one. And setting up the new system. Look at the new screen shot! (okay, you can't see it, but it's different than before) But that's not all. I'm gonna rearrange my office as well. It's all centered around music. I needed more room for the music. The digital music. The vinyl. The continuous soundtrack. And this puppy will assist the band in future recordings (in the new year!). It's four times as powerful as the one we used on our last chunk of recordings. And we know how to use the software better than before. We're almost competent! But the job is the same. Nothing new. For the most part, I keep getting paid. Someone screwed up last week, though, and we didn't get paid until Saturday (instead of Friday). I'd say I was surprised at this, but no. It's par for the course, as everyone except golfers say. I guess I should be happy. The paychecks pay for the new stuff. The paycheck amount doesn't change, but they do keep coming. Eventually. These missives won't look different, even though I'm typing on a new keyboard with an updated version of the old software. So you'll just have to trust me that it's new. Shiny even. And maybe I'll even come up with something new to say, too.
