Brainy day transmitting
by Matt Worley

I was multi-tasking last night.

Drinking red wine, watching a four-hour long Tom Petty documentary and buzzing my head with a thought I can't shake.

Scribbling down notes on a Post-it note with a Sharpie. Soon the Post-it was filled, and I figured I'd remember what I was thinking about when I got up this morning.

And I do. It's about the only clear thought I've got. But it requires growth. Investigation. Maybe a little more serious thinking than I have patience for at the moment.

So I'm kind of caught in a loop.

I wanted some eggs this morning, but didn't get any at the grocery store yesterday because this always ends up happening: I buy eggs, I use a couple and a few months later I realize the eggs probably aren't safe to eat any more.

Knowing this about me and eggs means I always make a special trip to the grocery store just for eggs. Should I get eggs? I might need milk in a few days. But really...eggs? Will I want them any time after this morning for the next month or so?

I'm not a mind reader, but, then again, this is my mind. I should have some facility to read it.

Maybe this isn't mind reading, it's predicting the future.

And if I can predict the future then maybe this bigger thought I was digging on last night (and can't get out of my head right now) just might be a big idea. A great idea.

Then again, I can't seem to decide if I will be eating eggs a lot in the next month.

Do I have confidence in my abilities?

How about my risk tolerance factor?

Or am I just getting so desperate I'm grasping at straws?

I'm thinking it's a mixture. A tasty shake of strangeness. A puzzle that needs working out.

It's finally cooling off from a longer than usual hot summer, so working at the oven is feasible again. Frying or scrambling up some eggs. Making egg drop soup. These are very real possibilities.

Maybe I should get eggs when I get milk in a few days.

This much is becoming clear: thoughts and ideas are hard to shake. Until the real failure becomes crystal (which is why I won't obsess about the futility of the Lobos or the Chiefs first loss of the season...these things are finished...and I'm moving on from that).

But, short term, this persistent idea must be searched and prodded and nurtured.

I shall have to ponder on this a little more.

Matt Worley isn't off the reservation just yet.
