Is we or is we ain't getting better?
by Matt Worley

I'm an Independent.

Minded person.

But also have no party affiliation. Which means the primary season does not really apply to me. If you aren't a Democrat or Republican in New Mexico, you can't vote in the primaries. And if you do, you can only vote for your party's primary. Which pretty much means, this year, that the only ones going to the polls in June will be Republicans.

There are no big fights in the Democratic races this year (okay, maybe for Lieutenant Governor, but who cares about that?). Those people are all set. Ready to go. Been getting money from people who pay off our politicians since they were last elected.

And since I was a Democrat last time I was something, I still wouldn't have anything to go to the polls for anyway.

So much for being active in politics.

I guess I could care about the Supreme Court thingie, but I really don't.

And this whole oil spill thing looks pretty bad. Of course, it's the oil company's fault. Right? Aren't they in charge of their own operations? Did I miss something? If the government pays for the clean up, does that mean we get free gas?

Tennessee being under water isn't good. We don't think about the middle of the country much in terms of flooding, at least we don't since Katrina. Maybe it's just that those of us who don't live there don't think about it. But it's pretty bad. Even big time country singers are floating around their estates in boats. I hate to see primo musical equipment getting trashed.

But, most likely, there are thousands of people under water who live at their homes year round. And might not have flood insurance. Or sell t-shirts with their faces on it for $30-$50 a pop. Someday we're gonna hear a story about these people. Maybe we should sell t-shirts for Tennessee.

I got a paper today, but I can't say I'm way more informed than I was before I read it. I didn't find one offered job to apply to (which was my main reason for getting the big Sunday paper). This depresses me way more than the, admittedly, worse things happening in the world. But I'm also a selfish son-of-a-bitch.

There is an opportunity to be a candy baker at the famous Buffett's Candy. I might not be ready for that kind of career change, though.

Home sales were up in April (most likely from the expiring home buyer tax credit), but prices didn't move. Another report predicted stagnate prices for another couple of years. And made the statement that homes are "no longer cash machines."

At least the real cash machine worked when I took out money yesterday.

The stock market is acting like a wicked stepmother, but the price of oil has dropped. So a few bucks off a fill up. Cheers!

I work for a Greek company. Uh...bailouts for everyone? Does this mean I'll finally get a raise? Oh, right. No freakin' chance. Money goes top down. And by the time it gets down to me, there ain't none left.

The Royals fired their manager, which was pretty much expected. They went on a two game winning streak! And then did exactly what they've been doing all year last night (giving up a substantial lead in one inning).

Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

But I'm feeling alright. I'm rolling with the punches. I'm wondering if there's money in growing Medical Marijuana. Are we gonna legalize it already or just talk and talk and talk...? Can we have a vote on this?

I think it's all gonna come down to the last month. How is October for everyone? Are you feeling good, or are you ready to punish anyone who already has a government job? If it's the Phillies and Yankees again, I'm totally voting the bums out.

Matt Worley doesn't like the old ones, but isn't too sure about the new ones either.
