Fix my problems! Lower my taxes! Change! Change! Change!

Okay, I'm not sure how many people drank the Kool-aid two years ago, but it seems like a lot of folks made up their own mind on what change meant. For me, change meant the evil Republicans would not be in power. This change occurred, and it's about all I expected.

I will admit that there are many things I thought Obama and the Democrats did lousy in the last two years:

1. We are STILL fighting in Afghanistan. Why? Because we've been there for a while, and occupation is a bitch.

2. We are even more in debt with ourselves. I'm still not sure how this can happen, but it apparently gets worse all the time.

3. We have universal health care. Or do we? Does anyone really know what's going on with that?

4. A ton of Americans are still out of work. Having employed Americans fixes most problems we have as a society, but it's easier said than done.

There are some things that have been done right by Obama and the Democrats:

1. We're out of Iraq. Sort of. But really, we're back to not caring about that country at all. Fine by me. I was never impressed by purple fingers in the first place.

2. They stopped the recession. As bad as people think their lives are right now, just remember it could have been much worse. I know we think about what we don't have a lot of the time, but just think how bad it could have gotten.

3. Women on the Supreme Court! Not just woman, but women! How innovative! How creative! It only took 234 years of American government for that to happen, give or take.

4. The country is still better with the choice America made two years ago. McCain has gone into hiding and Palin has shown her crazy qualities. I shudder to think what state we would be in with those two telling us how it is.

1, 2, 3, 4. 1, 2, 3, 4. Pluses and minuses. Ups and downs.

The older I get, the more I realize getting elected on a national level is pretty similar to how it was in grammar school. Try to be everyone's friend and spread rumors about your opponent. This school yard mentality would be pretty silly if these people didn't end up with the open checkbook. Let's face it, they're all lawyers with American flags on their lapels. They wouldn't lie to us, would they?

You want some real truth? Social Security is going down. The COLA is just the first sign. Old people in the cab are already admitting to me it's going to disappear long before I get a check. It won't survive the baby boomers. Bank on it. Will any politician tell you that? Nope.

What some more truth? Government cannot create any more jobs. They talk about it, say they'll pass a bill for it, tout all kinds of plans, but the truth is that only innovation and demand can create jobs. Been a long time since we've had either.

Vote however you want in a couple weeks, or sit at home with an excuse not to vote. Many Americans are treating the Democrats like the rebound girlfriend after a bad end to an eight-year relationship. Only problem is if you dump the rebound, you have to go back to that girlfriend you hated in the first place. There's no going solo in American politics. Well, voting Libertarian is like being single, but no one will listen to you.

But hey, guess what? No one is listening to you right now. Everyone is talking to you, telling you how it is, and what you should do about it. The problem is none of these folks want a real relationship with you. They just want a few dates until the Tuesday after Halloween, then they will dump you for the party you were never invited to in the first place.
