10.18.09 Such a nice day by Matt Worley I don't want to be here at the computer. I totally forgot that I was supposed to write something today. Early practice (before noon!) kicked me off the schedule, and here I am thinking I should be grilling or getting a last bit of tan from this wonderful weather. New York baseball doesn't make sense. They're wearing mittens and galoshes and blowing on their hands. I'm wearing shorts and haven't buttoned my shirt from my post-rock shower. Crazy balloon family in Denver pulls a stunt so they can be on TV. Screw TV, look at the sky! Isn't it a beautiful day? This is what people talk about when they speak of vacation weather. Of where they want to go if they have the time or money. You don't know it. Most of the country doesn't. But if you aren't in New Mexico and in the high desert right now, you're probably bitching about the impending winter. Not us. And I'm gonna rub it in. This is why I live here. I'm popping another cold beer in a second. I've already sweat a lot today. And the first beer (totally my band's fault) was opened before noon. Even the nighttime is pretty nice. No where near freezing. Not even in the 40s. Screw the groundhog. He lives in the Arctic. Does the lizard see his shadow today? Hell yes! And that means at least another week of wonderful weather! I'm going to frolic! Bounce and dance! Put the sunglasses on without irony! It isn't Indian Summer, it's New Mexico Fall! And I'm out the door into the lovely sun!
