You must insert money before the fortune teller will acknowledge a question.

Cash or credit?

Paper or plastic?

Gas or electric?

Drive or walk?

Food or drink?

Spend or save?

Stay in or go out?

Say hi or pass by?

As we finish an old year and begin anew (all symbolic of course, but it feels right at this time of year because hasn't it been this year all freakin' year?), questions will roil our minds. And our answers might be of great importance. Or maybe not. Maybe this week one makes sense and the next is completely opposite.

We must be nimble. We must be quick. We must keep candlesticks on hand for rolling black outs.

All is not won, and all is not lost.

There's a new menu, and it's not just higher prices. We now have roasted boneless turkey legs with rice pilaf and steamed vegetables of the day.

One road will work to get there, but find a different way home.

Sometimes you have to start over two or three times. Sometimes you know exactly how it all goes.

Reflect or deflect?

Bright sun or big moon?

Minimize damages. I think this is a key thought for the new year. Sure I could use a haircut. I guess a few pounds could disappear. And those tires on my car look precarious. But these aren't resolutions.

If pennies aren't worth a damn, how much can a thought be worth?

Every time I go through all the things I changed in 2008, someone always asks about the things I didn't. Hard to be satisfied, y'know. Or maybe everyone else needs something different.

Maybe I'm not the man everyone wants.

I have no real plans. No blueprints. No maps. Eventually I'll get there, wherever that might be.

Fried chicken is good, but sometimes you gotta take the skin off.

Critical acclaim can be paid for. Review writers don't make much.

Some weeks your Netflix queue is full of shit.

The waitress doesn't always like your jokes, and that tip isn't enough to make it all better.

Moderation is easy to explain and hard to attain.

The first drink of the day is always the best. The last one might be just a bit too much.
