12.30.07 The change exchange a metamorphosis SUIT column by Chris Jungle What is our fate in 2008? Change. We will change the way we look at tigers at San Francisco Zoo. Please don't tease the big pussy. It'll come back to bite you. We will change the way we look at baseball. The best pitcher has joined the best hitter as the juiciest Roid Boys. We'll still go to ball games and debate every record broken in the last ten years and wonder how we could ever think that maybe it was the ball that was juiced. We will change the way we look at Pakistan. Well, at least for a little while. The ghost of bin Laden lives on. Not to mention the actual living man. Bhutto's party has named her 19 year old son in charge. I remember being nineteen. I was ready in my mind to take over the world. Revolution, people! Unfortunately no one listened to me. Typical. We will change the way we think about greenhouse gasses. Or will we? We all agree that global warming is happening, but what are we going to really do? Change light bulbs? Be proud of huge trucks that can get twenty miles to the gallon? The president signed into law new energy mandates that will go into effect in 2022. That's taking the initiative, big boy. We will continue to change our clothes, change our minds, and change our hairstyles. The effect will be minimal but comforting. We will change our leader. We've got one more year of Bush, and do not underestimate a Texan in charge. The White Man's Last Stand continues. The Republicans are all white and full of God, terror & fear tactics. The Democrats are either black, female or geeky Southern. It would have been cool to have a New Mexican president, but Richardson just doesn't have enough focus. As an independent voter, I won't vote about it until November, but I must say I'm an Obama man. I doubt I'll change anyone's mind, though. Change your own. Personal changes are coming my way. They are probably headed your way as well. How will we respond? What will be become? Who knows? Accept the change as it comes. The dollar will still be worth change. Change will be exchanged for smaller change. The numbers game goes on and on. Up and down. Don't get too caught up in its daily changes. It will change again tomorrow. The music will change. Apparently the best songs of 2007 involved girls dressed in tight clothing singing about inanimate objects and wanting your love. This must change. A new voice and message is out there somewhere. Change your outlook. Change your diet. Change your beliefs. You will find that you could use a little change in your daily routine. Exchange change. Pass your coins around. Pass your thoughts around. Pass your love around. You might be surprised by who wants it. Change your philosophy. I double-dog dare you. People who think the know it all are the most dangerous in the world. Change your style, change your brand, change your attitude. Change your clocks when day light savings comes around. Change your oil every 3000 miles. You get my drift, don't you? It's time to shake things up. This is the seventh year since our 9-11 meltdown, and we're still wandering around in some post-terrorism funk. Afraid to make the wrong move. Fearful of each other. Don't be afraid to change.
It's 2008. It's fate. It's not too late. Take the bait. Don't wait. Kiss Me Kate or some other mate. Open the gates from state to state. Stop the hate. Are you ready? Because lots of changes await. Chris Jungle will never be the same again.
