11.5.06 The Bushites vs. The Clueless an exasperated SUIT column by Chris Jungle I have no illusions. I am one man with one vote in one congressional district in New Mexico in the United States of America. I'm voting for Governor Bill Richardson like most New Mexicans will. I'm voting for Senator Jeff Bingaman like most New Mexicans will. Yes on the bonds, yes on the amendments, & yes for the Quality of Life Gross Receipts tax (go local arts funding!). The only race that is in serious contention is for one measly congressional seat. District 1 in New Mexico includes basically Albuquerque and the surrounding areas nearby. Our choice is Incumbent Republican Heather Wilson & Attorney General Democrat Patricia Madrid. This hotly contested seat had brought in millions of dollars for awful TV ads and lousy political parties all over the city. While the vote is pretty much split, the truth is this: both these candidates are idiots. I call it the race between the man & the little boy, and they're both women. Very disturbing. Congresswoman Wilson totes her stem cell support as a qualification of an independent mind, and Madrid totes a bag as a qualification for being all grown up. Their one & only debate proved neither has much to say if it's not written on a 2 x 3 index card. Wilson refused to answer a simple question of 'Did she think Bush was a good president and why?' and Madrid went blank for ten seconds for no apparent reasons. It's okay to shoot the deer in headlights, right? This is what will represent my district. On the surface, it looks all right. Hey, they're both women. That's progressive, right? They're both married to lawyers but refused to take their husbands' names. Understandable due to the inherent evil in the souls of most lawyers. This should be fun engaging battle of wits and ideologies, right? WRONG, WRONG, WRONG. With little more than a clue and a smile, these candidates make me despise the political process more and more. The result is easy to predict. Both will vote the party line if they win. That's it. One of these ladies will vote on the Republican side 90 percent of the time (as she has proven), and the other will vote Democrat 90 percent (because she'll accidentally push the wrong button sometimes). That's the big battle. That's what it's all about these days. If you look at the candidates in your district, I'll wager that it's really the same thing. All those Republicans who are distancing themselves from the Prez today will be shining his shoes again on Wednesday if they win. All those Democrats will still be as clueless on Wednesday especially if they win. The Bushites vs. the Clueless. Please make a selection now: I'm going with the clueless, and my reason is simple. I hate The Iraq War. I've hated The Iraq since before it began. Before & after the administration lied and/or manipulated the information. Before & after the fall of Baghdad. Before & after Iraqi elections. Before & after the insurgency, secular violence & civil war. Cut & run? WE NEVER SHOULD HAVE BEGUN. Four years of war, and it's getting worse every month. My leaders speak in vague old timey talk like it's gospel. "We're going to stay until we win" What's winning? "Victory." What's victory? "When the Iraqis are free." Have I ever told you how sick I feel when old men who did worse in school than I did tell me how to fight a war with the biggest military in the world? Pretty sick. Have I ever told how sick I feel when the opposition can't come up with anything more intelligent? Down right disgusted. There you have my feelings about the mid-term elections: Pretty sick & down right disgusted. Here's the bottom line, though. I'm voting Democrat for just about everything. Not because I think they're swell folks, but I know they are against our idiot president and his god-given war-mongering ways. When you only get one vote in the whole scheme of things, it seems you shouldn't labor too much on why you vote the way you do. One half-ass reason is really good enough. Don't forget that there's a decent chance you'll be disenfranchised anyway.
Vote or Don't. Either way, we'll get exactly what we deserve. Chris Jungle is all about the bonds. Pass around that government cheese.
