9.11.05 Never forget anything a memorable SUIT column by Chris Jungle Never forget 9-11, 2001. Never forget how terrorists smashed our own commercial jets into both World Trade Center Towers, destroying them. Never forget that two other planes were thwarted on that day from major disasters at the Pentagon and possibly the White House. Never forget that these acts were carried out by less than thirty extremists. Never forget the bravery & courage of the people of New York City in the aftermath of the disaster. Never forget the nationalism that followed and the amount of American flags displayed in every part of the country. Never forget that we sent forces to Afghanistan in response, bombing and attacking Al-Queda forces. Never forget how we did not capture Osama bin Laden, the man who claims responsibility for the day we must remember. Never forget that we are still have troops in Afghanistan, still fighting, killing and dying. Never forget our subsequent War on Terror, our creation of Homeland Security, and threats toward Iraq. Never forget how the government told us to protect our homes with duct tape and plastic sheeting. Never forget that we had weapons inspectors in Iraq who could not find any weapons of mass destruction. Never forget how President Bush told us that Saddam Hussein had Weapons of Mass Destruction, creating a rallying cry for The War on Terror. Never forget Secretary of State Colin Powell talking to the UN with empty vials of that could possibly contain Anthrax and illustrations of semi-trailers that could hold WMDs. Never forget the prewar protests that occurred by millions all over the world, and that President Bush accepted their right to protest. Never forget that The War in Iraq was a preemptive strike decision made by The United States of America. Never forget that Halliburton received the major military contracts without bidding. Never forget that the mostly United States led troops overran the Iraqi military in a matter of a few weeks. Never forget how we were not greeted as Liberators. Never forget when President Bush flew to an air craft carrier in May of 2002, claiming that major military operations were over in Iraq as a banner flew behind him that stated "Mission Accomplished." Never forget that oil production came to a screeching halt in Iraq and no rebuilding process occurred. Never forget that terrorists and insurgents used suicide bombs to kill and wound thousands of people in Iraq. Never forget that we never found any weapons of mass destruction. Never forget that we did found Saddam Hussein hiding in a hole and captured him alive. Never forget that we have yet to capture Osama bin Laden. Never forget how many billions have been spent to continue to occupy Iraq in the hopes of starting a democratic government. Never forget that we will stay the course, whatever that may be. Never forget how many national guard members have been sent to Iraq and how much money has been allocated to the war in lieu of domestic projects. Never forget how gas prices shot up to three dollars a gallon or more all over the country. Never forget Hurricane Katrina, its horrific effects, and the lack of proper response by all levels of government to respond in the first four days after the natural disaster.
Never forget that this is all connected.
