11.7.04 Bush America a reelected SUIT column by Chris Jungle Goddammit. . . I swear to God. . . Goddammit. . . After all is said and done, this country has officially gone conservative. With a religious right President, a 10-seat Republican advantage in the Senate, and a conservative edge in the Supreme Court, this country will get exactly what it deserves. There have many reactions by the minority. I'm off to Canada, I feel so helpless, I don't know if I can go on. Personally, I have a small rage brewing in me. Not the kind of rage that makes me want to join an extremist group or gang up with protesters. My rage is with ALL Americans. WE decided on our current path, and the result is Bush America. Now, there is no US. It's just you and me, and everyone is out for themselves. There are the cries to unite. There are the cries to divide. Screw all of you. I am not on anyone's side but my own. That's my way in Bush America. The Republicans smeared, scared and lied their way to reelection. The Democrats (who had four years to prepare) had more fodder against this administration than any since Nixon's and couldn't get one red state to change their ways. Even my home state of New Mexico (thanks to rural area Republican dominance) went red this time. I'm pretty red myself these days. There will be no sympathy from me. Not for John Kerry, not for Democrats, not for seniors and their prescription drugs, not for soldiers forsaking their lives and limbs in unjust foreign wars, not for the unemployed, not for children left behind in education, not for stem cell research, not for abortion and pro-choice activists, not for environmentalists, not for Christians, not for Muslims, not for the administration when things go badly, not for anyone. WE the people chose this path. WE will get what WE deserve. It doesn't matter who voted for who, or if you voted at all. WE have a very distinct way of selecting our leaders, and the results are what they are. Now, WE are done with our choice, and you better start watching your own ass. I admit it. Republican administrations make me tougher. I've grown at least four layers of extra skin since the year 2000, and America these days is just telling me to get tougher. That means I am not on your side anymore. I may agree with your position, but I will not pander, plead or cajole anyone's opinion. This is Bush America, and no one is out for your best interests. Suck it up, whiny liberals. Get ready to be smacked, pompous conservatives. Everybody be on your toes in Bush America. Your neighbors can call you a terrorist and the Thought Police can invade your home. The national religion is Christianity, and you better pray. Cough up the money for the war. Cough up the money for rising interest rates. Cough up the money to pay for no-bid contracts for policies you would never endorse yourself. It may sound bitter, it may sound like sour grapes, but it's not. I assure you these are the freshest and ripest thoughts in my brain. I am not a sore loser. I accept reality for what it is, and I shed no tears for what could have been. I am an American. I have always been an American. I will always be an American, and I'm watching out for my own ass. The choice has been made by the people, and this is how I respond to it. I will not unite. I will not divide. I will not pick a side and unilaterally accept all of their doctrines. I'm out for myself these days, and I will have no sympathy for your plight. As no one will for me. This is Bush America, and if you think it's going to be easy, think again. Toughen up or get run over. Speak up or be ignored. Wave the flag or protest the policies. Be passive or be aggressive. It won't matter to anyone but yourself. We've got four more years of Bush America because that's what the majority wanted. Whatever happens, remember this: As a nation, we get exactly what we deserve.
