12.09.01 Where is my muse? by Matt Worley
Can you tell me if you see
Why are you staring at me like that? There's got to be a way out of this loop Oh yeah, it's one of those dreams where you know you're dreaming so really the grasp on reality and dream world is tenuous at best, making believing anything something of a problem. Kind of like that mushroom trip where you can see the abyss and you turn around and tell the others, "Did you know you could just jump down into this thing?" and everyone kind of nods because they're reacting to the sound, but really all they heard was, "Is it good to mix mozzarella cheese and the liquid nacho cheese for a dip?" So you shrug, turn and jump. It is perplexing. I don't really understand it myself. I smile and nod in a non-committal way, all the time wondering why a virtual stranger would tell me that sticking your thumb up their ass while you're fucking them doggy really drives em wild. I find myself wondering what my music collection will sound like in twenty years. And whether or not I should look for the missing Bon Jovi CDs. Was he really a genius? At first, this was going to be one of those poems that didn't realize poems live in a different part of the city than other modes of communication, and the struggle for a young poem to understand itself in this modern world. And finally, I found the top of the sea. Sure it was moving back and forth in that way oceans do, but it was the top. There was air. There was the blessed sunshine. There were lots of dead squid floating nearby. I knew in a minute I'd begin a two hour torture session on the subject of getting randomly bitten until the inevitable food fight featuring yours truly. Well I'm with you. Someone's got to have a cure. I mean, why would God let all these people die for no reason. Oh yeah, Warren Beatty's sister was right. No one wanted her to be right, especially after that really awful made-for-TV movie. But she was, dammit. Mars is all about the past. But we think it's about the future, so we're really just looking at it all wrong.
There is this feeling I get
Where do heroes go to die There's no old timers day in boxing. I've heard a few people tell me this. But there are bio-pics on old boxers. So in that way, there is an old timers day. But not really the way old baseball players get together for charity and a bit of money on the side to play softball. Why do I have little toys on top of my monitor every place I have a monitor to put something on the top of? Is this like praying to a pagan god? Can someone tell me who I'm praying to and if I'm doing it right, because nothing seems to be happening. Do you push this button at the same time or right after you press the 1? Oh, first the 2 and then the 1 and then a 4. Do I have to press the pound sign? There is no pound sign? Well, what the fuck is this? Looks like a fucking pound sign to me! And I'm gonna press it! See if I don't! Mutherfucker! Really, the road rage is just a release of tension about either going to work or release of stress from having been at work all day and really has nothing to do with the fucking Legend with a really tacky looking spoiler that just cut me off. Do we laugh at things because they are making fun of other people or things, or because, deep down, we feel like we are laughing at a never-spoken-about part of ourselves? Have you ever seen a dwarf do somersaults? It's pretty fuckin' funny. Is this the holiday spirit I've been hearing everyone talk about?
