If you'll allow me to be egotistical for a moment, one of the things I'm really good at is listening to music and hearing everything that's there. I can't tell you how many bands have written me saying "You're the first person who's ever understood our music!" I also know how important it is to get feedback on what you're doing. I'm a writer who tries to sell his work (which has nothing to do with music), and I always appreciate hearing what editors have to say about what I've done, even if the word "sucks" appears ten times in the rejection notice. I am cutting back my reviewing time for A&A, but I still want to help out young bands. I just need to be paid for my time. For the admittedly princely sum of $50 ($25 for singles and EPs), I will write an in-depth (two or three page, rather than three or four paragraph) Critique of your work. This include a song-by-song analysis, an overview of the work as a whole, suggestions for improvement and (if I can think of a good fit) names of record labels that might be interested in your stuff. I want to emphasize that my choices for inclusion in the monthly A&A reviews will have nothing to do with who does or does not buy Critiques. The Critiques are strictly mercenary. I figure it'll take me three to four hours per full album, which works out to $12 to $16 an hour. As yuppie as it sounds, fifty bucks isn't enough to bribe me to do anything (except, perhaps, sleep with Kate Beckinsale). If you're interested in have a Critique done, just send in your work and a check (made out to Jon Worley) for the proper amount to:
Aiding & Abetting Please remember to include as much contact information as possible. Name and address are absolutely necessary, and phone number and e-mail are greatly appreciated. Chances are I'll have a few questions, and your answers will help me write a much better critique. If you have any questions about the A&A Critique (or anything else), please don't hesitate to holler. My e-mail address is jworley@cent.com. My phone number is (919) 682-0045. I remain at your service.
