7/3/25:
Remains of the day

Café del Mar is best known for its many compilations of electronic fare enjoyed at Ibiza. Somehow, this is the first non-compilation it has issued. But there's a reason the tradition has been broken.

Pig & Dan
Journey Within
(Café del Mar)

Pig & Dan are a duo whose previous output has been more upbeat and techno. This is definitely a chilldown sunset groove, relying more on triphop, dub and other downbeat electronic sounds. I suppose the album title does more than hint at that. But fans of the duo's previous work might be somewhat surprised by what's here.

There should be no fretting. The quality and complexity of sound remains high, and these pieces wander and meander while remaining tethered. The songs never lose shape, even as they shift from one phase of consciousness to another.

In these days of blistering heat and an increasingly penetrating sun, there is always room to celebrate a sunset and the prospect of a grand evening. Pig & Dan set that table and then slide ever so stylishly into the waves. Relax. You're only losing your mind.
