8/1/24:
Dip and slide

I'd shorten a given name as busy as Gabriel Archibald Horowitz any day. And Archi isn't much interested in going on about much of anything. The longest of the eleven tracks on this set clocks in at 3:18, and two minutes isn't unusual. He finds a groove, sticks it and then moves on.

These Thoughts
(Universal South Africa)

A peppier version of Midnite Vultures, perhaps--certainly more processed--These Thoughts are a quick, slinky ramble that slides just under the skin.

Obviously this is intended to hit the pop world, and it might. But Archi's sensibilities are just off-kilter enough to avoid solipsism. The beats are easy, the grooves are sly, but there's just of whiff of something substantive floating past.

Archi might find all the pop success he is clearly trying to achieve. But I think his vibe is on a deeper wavelength. Either way, this is a short, snappy and fun set for the fading (or oncoming, in his country) summer.
